We all want to keep our rc's running strong, right? Of course we do, but it seems like its impossible. They always seem to break. The old radio shack cars never broke but they where just to slow. The "pro" cars can be made just as strong as radio shack rc's or even better! So here are the steps
- Install as many aluminum parts or very strong plastic wherever you can. But keep plastic suspension arms. Titanium is really good for the chassis and stuff.
- Set up the suspension right, get the right shocks for what you do. If all you do is major jumping get heavy shock oil like 50 wt and get heavy springs. If you do normal run around 35 wt. You really need your suspension to do its job, its possibly the most important part of this whole thing. Get aluminum 4 in shocks if you can.
- Install captured ball cups. The other ones just pop off. These are way better and don't come off.
- Get CVD's (constant velocity drives) from MIP or whatever, they provide very good durability and make your car better.
- Install titanium turnbuckles, or get plastic ones that are fixed (not very adjustable but work, like on the stampede).
- Get strong aluminum outdrives if you can and stronger metal gears! Install 32 pitch for electric's if you want
- Get bigger tires, they act as huge suspension help. It comforts the landing like pillows. Also get foam inserts, but not to firm or it wont be good for normal small jumps.
- Get a roll cage if one is available, they stiffen your chassis and help the upside down landings. Also you can put in wire mesh in your bodies and glue it in there. This keeps your body from cracking and makes it stronger!
These should be all you need. Also you need to learn how to drive. Don't run head into stuff, duh! Also if you try to jump a curb or something hit it at an angle, never head on. Its obvious advice but very important. Be nice to your car, I should use that advice, no wonder my rc's are always broke, I drive them like a maniac.
